James graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Clinical Distinction in 2011. Following this, he completed training posts in Maxillofacial surgery and a 5-year specialist training program in Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute. As part of training James completed a research master’s in digital dentistry and was awarded a distinction.

During training, James was also awarded a competitive Clinical Fellowship by the British Society of Periodontology to complete further training at the University of Bern, Switzerland. This included attendance to the Masterclass in Regenerative and Plastic-Aesthetic Periodontal Surgery and visiting the specialist departments.

In 2020, James was appointed as a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the Leeds Dental Institute and is the clinical lead for the periodontal services. His areas of interest include dental implants, periodontal surgery and rehabilitation for patients with toothwear and trauma. James continues to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in periodontics, toothwear and implant dentistry. He has published numerous articles and presented at national meetings.

Outside of dentistry James enjoys running, playing squash, hiking and travelling.
