Your dental health check
When attending the practice for your regular dental health check we will check the health of your teeth and gums, your existing restorations and your soft tissue areas. We will also take x-rays and undertake an oral cancer screening. We will take this opportunity to talk you through our smile analysis and ensure you have as much information as possible on your treatment options.
Tooth whitening options
Tooth whitening is a successful and simple method of lightening the colour of your teeth. Your teeth will yellow with age, but drinking tea, coffee and colas all speed up this process. Smoking and other staining agents will also contribute to darkening of the teeth. The whitening technique removes this staining agent that has penetrated deep within the tooth and is most effective on mildly discoloured teeth. However, darker teeth can also be successfully lightened in colour but the process may take a little longer. We can advise upon the suitability of treatment based upon your tooth and gum condition.
In-surgery power whitening
Your teeth can be lightened immediately using this technique which is conducted at the practice and involves a bleaching solution being applied to your teeth which is then activated by a light. The light energy creates a small amount of heat which starts the bleaching process, making your teeth lighter. The process takes approximately one hour and results are usually seen in one appointment.
We will take an impression of your teeth to custom make a mouthguard for you. The mouthguard is lightweight so that you can wear it comfortably while you are awake or asleep. Along with the mouthguard you will receive a whitening gel which is placed in the mouthguard which you then wear. This whitening system works by wearing the mouthguard with the whitening gel for several hours a day and therefore most patients tend to wear the mouthguard at night whilst they are asleep. Results are normally seen within a 14 day period.
Facial aesthetic treatments can help soften expression lines and define facial contours. The procedures are quick and easy to undertake and the results can have the effect of turning back the years. You will have a consultation with a qualified practitioner before treatment is undertaken and all aspects of the procedures will be fully explained.
Botox® is a highly popular method of softening facial expression lines and making the face look refreshed. Crease lines and wrinkles are a natural maturing process caused by a combination of ageing, sun damage, gravity and the everyday motions of laughing, talking, frowning and crying.
Botox® works by relaxing the tiny facial muscles which create expression lines. This means the muscles no longer contract so the overlying skin stays smooth and crease-free. The result is a more serene and youthful look. The procedure is simple and straightforward. Botox® is injected using a very fine needle in very precise locations on the face. After around two or three days the effects are seen with the full benefits becoming visible up to fourteen days after treatment. The results last around three to five months before repeat treatments are required.
To achieve long lasting improvements to the appearance of wrinkles, a deeper layer of the skin should be treated. Hydra Fill® works in the dermis itself, to fundamentally change the appearance of wrinkles.
Hydra Fill® is natural hyaluronic acid-based implant that is injected directly into the dermis. Through injections at this level, the dermis can be augmented, providing a fundamental and lasting correction for wrinkles and depressions.
With Hydra Fill® the fine lines, wrinkles and folds are immediately filled and corrected. Mouths too can become fuller and lips more clearly defined. In addition, as an oval facial shape is often associated with a younger appearance, augmentation in the cheek areas can enhance a youthful appearance.
Dental implants – a permanent natural replacement for missing teeth or dentures
Dental implants are a revolutionary solution to tooth loss and we are delighted to be able to offer this service to our patients. Our dental team have undergone extensive training to enable them to place dental implants and this treatment is a welcome addition to the extensive range of cosmetic options available at the practice. A dental implant is a small man-made titanium screw that serves as a replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. This bonds with the bone on the upper or lower jaw and serves as an anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth, as well as securing dentures.
Implants look, feel and function like natural teeth and are a proven restorative option. Implants can boost the confidence taken away with tooth loss enabling you to drink, eat, smile and enjoy your life to the full.
If you are interested in dental implants please speak to a member of our dental team, they will be happy to undertake a personal assessment. Before treatment commences a full treatment plan with relevant costs will be given to you.
Crowns and bridges
We can cover unsightly teeth using crowns, spaces between teeth can be filled using bridgework either attached to crowns or by using the latest in adhesive dentistry, we can fix a replacement tooth onto an adjacent tooth using adhesive wings. With new ceramic technology available, crowns and bridges are more and more tooth like and the black lines around the gum margins are less likely to occur.
Natural coloured fillings
Metal fillings can now be replaced by natural coloured fillings to improve the look of your smile.
Provide a wafer thin mask to hide discolouration on teeth and close unsightly gaps with little or no work being needed on the tooth itself.
Are your dentures tired and worn looking? Do they look too much like false teeth?
We can replace them using quality, natural looking teeth and materials, giving you the choice of a more natural look through to that glamorous Hollywood smile.
Sedation – when a little extra help is needed
We know how nervous some patients may be when visiting us for treatment. We understand these fears and will do all we can to help you overcome them. Sometimes all that is needed is friendly reassurance and understanding to help you relax. However, in some instances a little extra help is needed. Our dental team are trained to administer conscious sedation to patients who are extremely anxious. This treatment is called intravenous (IV) sedation and you will be injected into the back of your hand. The amount of sedation administered is closely controlled so that you become drowsy and unaware of the treatment being carried out, but you are still able to understand and respond to verbal instructions. Not all patients are suitable for this treatment, so it is important that we talk through your options before we commence. However, this option is very effective and can help in many instances to enable you to complete your dental treatment effectively and without trauma.
The importance of the dental hygienist
There is now increasing evidence linking gum disease with heart disease and strokes. It is also the main reason for loss of teeth and we take the treatment of gum disease very seriously.
Our dental hygienists have four main roles
To remove calculus (tartar) from your teeth – this is done by a technique called scaling and polishing.
To treat gum disease (also known as ‘gingivitis’ or ‘periodontal disease’) – this is caused by plaque which is a sticky film or bacteria. If left untreated your gums will start to swell and bleed, resulting in tooth loss.
To teach patients good oral hygiene techniques, individually tailored to their specific needs.
To help analyse patients’ diets and offer advice to prevent decay.
